The Fab Faux is made up of 5 journeymen musicians who live to recreate live the things that the Beatles created in studio with remixing and overdubs. You may recognize some of them from their other gigs (Jimmy Vivino is the Music Director for Conan O’Brien and Will Lee plays bass on The Late Show with David Letterman). This video is of them at the Sirius studios faithfully covering the...

innovations in haircuttery
Me: Gotta get a haircut
A: Just don't get a fauxhawk.
Me: Maybe instead I'll get a fauxmullet
A: Just a tiny mullet atop your head.
Me: Demimullet.
A: Sounds like something you would get at Le Bernardin
Me: Or perhaps I'll get a fauxbald.

Michel Gondry DVD 2
Michel Gondry has released a follow-up DVD to his Director’s Series with some more classics and work that he has created since the first DVD. Included on this volume are videos he did for bands such as The White Stripes, Radiohead, The Rolling Stones and, of course, Bjork. It also has such internet hits as “Michel Gondry Solves a RUBIK’S CUBE With His Feet” and...

me: Thanks for the great weather advice.

"Where the Wild Things Are" Soundtrack Coming Soon
From the moment I saw the trailer for Spike Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things Are” movie with music by the Arcade Fire, I was excited to hear details about the soundtrack. Well, Pitchfork has now posted details on the upcoming release. The album is credited to Karen O and the Kids (the kids being noted Composer Carter Burwell, Bradford Cox from Deerhunter, and Imaad Wasif). The...

Arrested Development will never get old
Buster: Let me go with you. I was trained by Army. I speak the language.
Michael: You speak Arabic?
Buster: La-ach-ha-tem.
Michael: What’s that mean?
Buster: No, I was just clearing my throat... but I think it actually does mean "laundry," but like a child’s laundry. We don’t really have a word for it.

Like A Local is a travel service that helps tourists avoid the traps and see cities from the prospective of a resident. Current TV posted this video following one of their tour offerings in Barcelona. I’m contemplating some overseas trips for later this year, and went to check the site to see what kind of offerings they had currently, but sadly found that the site is under construction. I...

Filmmaker Murray Siple spent years making documentaries about extreme sports until a car accident left him a quadriplegic. After taking ten years off, he got back behind the camera to capture a story of a group of homeless men who spend their mornings collecting bottles and cans and their afternoons racing shopping carts down the steep hills of Northern Vancouver. It aired on the Sundance...

Dan Barber, Executive Chef and Co-Owner of the Blue Hill restaurants in New York and Westchester, gave this talk at the TED 2008 Taste3 Conference in Napa, California about a small farm in Spain making waves with a humane way of producing Foie Gras. The product they sell is so good that they have won major awards despite some protest that they aren’t true Foie Gras since they don’t...

Philips has launched a project called “FOOD” that takes a look at the future of food 15-20 years from now. From the site:
These investigations, like other probe projects, examine the possible consequences of various (long-range) social trends and ‘weak signals’ emerging from the margins of society. In the case of food, this involved tracking and interpreting issues like...

On the subject of Evol
While I’m on the subject of Berlin artist Evol, I should mention how I came across his work in the first place. A while back, he painted a corridor in Neukolln’s Flamingo Beach Lotel, where each room is designed by a different artist. Evol’s contribution was this street scene depicted below.
At first, I assumed this was just another set of night street shots by some...

Ancient Egyptians predict the coming of MJ →
This ancient Egyptian bust, currently housed at the Field Museum in Chicago has been garnering a lot of attention lately due to the fact that it looks exactly like Michael Jackson (complete with the crazy surgery nose). Normally I see these stories about the face of Richard Nixon appearing in someone’s Ovaltine and move along, but you have to admit that this is creepily accurate.

GI Joe and the masters of the ridiculous escape →
Adrian Chen over at Slate has compiled a video slideshow detailing some of the most ridiculous and implausible escapes in G.I. Joe cartoon history. There are 8 videos posted with accompanying text. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud when watching some of these. In some cases, the real thing was funnier than the G.I. Joe spoofs that were going around years back.

I describe a film plot based on two movies.
You tell me the combined title.
For example: Plot: suburban family gets mad at a hairy mountain-beast for satirizing them in his roman-a-clef.
Title: Deconstructing Harry and the Hendersons.
So reblog or comment with an answer to the following, but ONLY if you write your own too.

Triptrop NYC Maps →
Jonathon Soma put together this map application that will give you a realistic estimate of how long it will take you to get from any point in NYC to another on the subway. A useful tool, particularly for certain friends of mine who are still working on their travel time estimates.

Jer Thorp culled data from Twitter users who used the phrase “just landed in…” and compiled a visual representation in Processing to show the users’ flights over a 36 hour period.
